Switching from intel i5 6600k to ryzen 7 2700x, what do I need to make sure I do?

As the title states, i'm planning on switching from Intel to Ryzen, meaning, obviously, I will be switching motherboards. I have done research and have found conflicting experiences, some people didn't re install windows, and were fine, while others did and were also fine. I have also seen some say to backup your hard drives and windows. So what i'm asking is what experience do you guys have with switching cpu and motherboard on windows. My windows in currently unactivated if that changes anything. Thanks in advance for any help!

It's actually not necessary to reinstall Windows, but since a new CPU + motherboard is often considered a new system, it's a good idea anyway to start fresh.

It's down to the motherboard. Expect the possibility that a new motherboard will not accept your windows install, but if you move your drive over and do stress tests and find out there's no problem, then it's good to go.

Why are you choosing the R7 2700X? for the greatest majority of cases a R5 3600 is a better alternative.

 

Moving from Intel to AMD you're strongly advised to reinstall Windows since pretty much all entries and drivers will have to be updated, you usually can stick to the Windows install when the hardware change is small like moving from a 8th gen Intel to another 8th or 9th gen Intel.
