I'm looking at a keyboard with Outemu Blue switches. Good or bad decision?

The last mechanical keyboard I had was a Model M on my IBM, but I'm considering buying something that isn't a membrane after 25 years of using them. There are some seriously bargain-basement keyboards available on eBay and Amazon, but are they worth purchasing?

I'm fully aware that Cherry switches are leaps and bounds above most of the other mechanical offerings, but does anyone have experience with these switches, or this brand of keyboard? Am I a fool for even looking at it?

as a gamer, i broke two space bar outemu blues already lol.

Dang, that is pretty bad, haha.

 

Any advice on a keyboard that might be a decent value but potentially more reliable?

if you like reallly loud switches, get it.

 

also cherry isn't the "golden standard" anymore.

 

budget? rgb? macros? clicky, tactile, or linear?

I have Redragon K552 RGB keyboard that uses otemus blue switches for 6 months now and it is still going strong.

RGB isn't really important, I don't use macros so not a big selling point. It'll mostly be for gaming, so something linear is maybe better?

 

Budget is basically what it costs to get something decent but not necessarily a brand name. I'm out of my element as no one I know has a mechanical keyboard, and the only place that I could test them, Fry's, has liquidated all their stock.

Both of those are really compelling at those prices. I'm so used to seeing $100+ mechanical keyboards that I was thinking that was the price point for acceptable quality. Might just have to order one of those now...

keep in mind that there are many more, i just searched for some keebs within a price range, i'm sure there are better ones

 

another option is to get a barebones or cheap hotswap keeb and find decent switches

That's not true at all, complete opposite. For the most part, switches will generally all peform the same unless they use different mechanisms such as click bar in Kailh versus click jacket in Cherry.

 

In terms of your choice for Outemu Blues, I highly recommend against them as they're cheaply built, sound tinny, inconcistent across the board on keypress due to the click jacket, and aren't a very nice clicky switch to type on.
