I have a dell laptop that I got as a gift and I want to game on it. I know my cpu can handle it and I have 16 gb of ddr4, I’m just stuck using the CPU’s integrated graphics which does not handle gaming well and a dvd play can play a movie at a higher resolution. So I’m just wondering if there is anything I can do to use an eGPU or if I just need to get a new laptop

Over USB 3.0 itself? No. The protocol doesn't support GPUs.

Using an eGPU setup that connects to the PC with a USB 3.0 cable? Only if you like severely degraded performance. Those operate using 1 lane of PCIe, which is enough for mining, but not enough for gaming.

Hello and Welcome to the LTT Forum.

What you could do Sir, is instead of using the M.2 proprietary Wi-Fi adaptor, you could try using an M.2 to eGPU adaptor, if you Notebook doesn't have a free M.2 slot for SSD. But this could prevent you from closing your laptop(the back of it). And alhough it might be possible to use an eGPU on a USB 3.0, the speed conection might generate some bottleneck since it's maximum(theorical) bandwith is 5Gbps.

While technically possible, I don't recommend using an external GPU without having Thunderbolt 3. USB 3.0 is too slow and not worth it to run a GPU and Frankensteining the laptop to use the M.2 PCIE slot if you even have one is just not recommended if you don't have a lot of experience. If you're looking at spending money on an external GPU my advice would be to sell your current laptop and put the money from that and what you were going to spend on an external GPU into a gaming laptop that has a dedicated GPU already.
