Is the phone screen unlocked?

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

Don't forget to tag or quote in your reply if you want me to know you've answered or have another question.

What phone do you have?  You shouldn't require any special software to copy files between the phone and computer.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

as Ryan mentioned.

once you plug it in you should get a pop up message saying that a device has been connected.

then your toolbar should have a usb button you can press and choose what to do with the newly inserted device and choose file transfer.

then it should be visible in the pathfinder/explorer (don't know the name in english but the windows program you press to view your drives)

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

Yes

Some phones won't connect by default.  Plugging them in simply generates a notification you can (and must) click to choose a connection mode - power only, mass storage, or other (if present).

Yeah this.  They're trying to get you to install some software to transfer, at least on older phones, but it's not necessary.  You just have to change to mass storage then the PC just sees the phone as mass storage device.

Actually it's called Media Transfer Mode on my phone
