Hey guys, did a quick search but didn't find something this specific.

Looking to build an ITX build on the Asus Strix B450-i Gaming and a Ryzen 3700X which I already own. My questions are:

1. Does anyone have experience with this board, does it support Ryzen 3000 out of the box or would I need to buy/borrow an old chip to update the BIOS to work with Ryzen 3000 (I'd rather not send it off to Asus to update it for me)?

2. If it does require an older chip to update the BIOS,

  • What is the cheapest CPU that will work as a temporary BIOS updater?
  • Is anyone willing to let me borrow an older CPU that will work, if I pay shipping both ways?
  • If I am willing to buy that CPU myself, is anyone interested in starting a CPU-share train where I'll send the chip to the next person in the same situation after I've updated the BIOS, then they send it on to the next person, etc with shipping costs being the only thing anyone has to pay?

Thanks in advance! First post here, don't know why I've waited so long to join the forums.

Athlon 200GE

It's FREE from AMD as an "update kit" (borrowed)

Even comes with thermal paste lol

Unclear to me if you already own the motherboard or not. If not then it is likely that a newly purchased board will have a compatible BIOS.

I ordered it from amazon yesterday, and it says it'll be back in stock and ship on Nov 30. So hopefully it'll be a new bios.

Just an update. The board arrived on Dec 2, and it did not come with an updated bios.

But I ended up getting a 2700X on an extremely good black friday sale, with the plan of eventually upgrading to a 3950X when they're in stock at some point in the future. So no issues with the BIOS.

I wouldn't put a 3950x on that motherboard
