Insanely slow laptop witn ssd and clean windows 10 (HP255G3)

I own this old laptop (Hp-255-G3 E1 6100 4 GB RAM) for a very long time (i think that i got it in 2012), didnt used it much, i own a powerfull desktop ws so i had no need for a laptop. Now i am first year on a unversity and i need a laptop to follow along with my classes, so it had to run chrome, notepad ++ and netbeans8.2. I pulled out my laptop and backed up all the date i had on it and done a clean install of windows 10 pro, i realised it was slow, really slow. I opened taks manager and noticed it had 100% CPU and DISC usage all the time, since i earn my pocket money rapring computers so imeaditly realised hdd is too slow or even broken and went on and put in a 240gb s100 brand new ssd from biostar (i have a new ssd on the hand all the time), it might not be the fastest but hey it is perfect price/pref. Than i installed win10 pro again and woo its was nearly the same, only slightly faster. I was like damn that ssd si test and runs great on my test i3 6100 asus h110m-a system, while i was replacing the ssd i alos duested the laptop out too but didnt changed the thermal paste b it would have requred even more dissasembly (hp repairman will know how much pain it is)

The pc in current state is so slow that it takes 10sec to open chrome to a working state, starting windows takes ~50 sec. When it had win7 ulitamate 32bit it was way faster while it was virus free (even with that 5400rpm hdd it had) - i was a kid and experemented at that period :)

Things i done:

- Cleaned out the computer

- Tried 2 other SSDs

- Updated the bios as well as tried the one ver. prior

- Tried Linux Mint 19.2 Tessa and nearly same results , little bit faster

- Set a Preformance windows power plan

 Things i might do:

- Repalce the thermal paste (although case is cool on tuch)

I am looking for a fix solution, not coments like "its garbage, trow it awey, there are better ones used for 100bucks"

I live in Europe, i try to reuse stuff that i have, i dont have any problem cashing out 700EUR rn on a new laptop, but i will prefere if this one works bc it has a very long lasting battery (3h)

Thanks to all of you who helped !!!

I'm sorry to break it to you mate but there's really nothing else to say here, the AMD E1 6010 is pretty much an obsolete CPU by today standards, you gonna need some ultra light weighted Linux distro to get this to an usable state.

i'm sorry but i've gotten systems better than that for free.

you really are better off getting even a 1st gen i5 laptop, those are usually under 100 used.

that will only help if you only touch the OS. as soon as you launch a web browser it will slow down to a crawl again.

Problem is it worked faster like 6 months before, it went slugish recently, i mean yeah its bad and all of that but i still think that this is fixable, hay even a pentium laptop i own from 2010 is at least 5x faster (its battery is ded), this amd laptop is thin and light weight compared to the pentium laptop i own

I am not talking about how to get used equpment nor how good hardware you can get free in America, i am talking about how is it possible that in few months of not using a computers it becomes soo slugish

  • i'm not in america
  • that happens because things change. the internet has changed a lot in the 40 or whatever years it's existed and websites get heavier. that's why old devices get slow on the internet.

Its still sooo strange how the ssd doesnt help at all, in that Pentium laptop adding an ssd made it run literally 5x faster, so strange, could it be literally firmware related in any matter

That Intel Pentium T4150 laptop has a ded battery and a new one is 50EUR so i dont feal like its worth saving that old and fat laptop, but i might actually go it although its sooo fat, not practical for my application at all, i might try to find something else in my pile of laptops

Not only chrome, literally whole OS is irresponsive and slugish, i have seen penitum 4s for lga755 with 2 gb of ram that handle windows 10 much better and yet they are slower than e1 6100

reinstall Windows, or use a lightweight Linux distro

Did the laptop have different OS / other software when it was "fast"?

REGARDLESS what I would do is clean state,  install the original software,  try to get windows defender running,  then find a lightweight browser and see if that improves anything.

Also cleaning the laptop thoroughly of dust *and* replacing the thermal paste - if you already did this check if CPU etc is properly seated - might help.

If all that doesn't fix it...

It's probably better to move on.

i have same laptop.

1.- You need to install windows 8.1 core single lenguaje. windows 8.1 use hardware acceleration from amd apus, windows 10 erase that feature and uses SSE instead, so with windows 10 will be slow, if you need win 10 you need to debload it.

2,. use opera or  internet explorer 11 to use hardware acceleration , chrome doesnt do that.

3.-Now i have up and running my laptop even games like cod 4 and left 4 dead runs well.
