Have you tried just using Netflix in a browser?  I also tried the app recently and I don't recall what the issue was but I quickly decided it was unusable and went back.  iirc the app was miserable to navigate and super laggy, but don't quote me on that

Hm I've never heard that before.  Going to have to run some tests now.  If that's true I'll be a bit embarrassed that I never noticed, but at any rate our setup is going to require some adjustment...

Yep, I don't think browsers support 5.1 at all, sadly :/

That's not true, I know for a fact that every browser I've tested (Chrome + Firefox) support surround.  There's really no reason for them not to.  This is the reason I'm surprised to hear that Netflix in the browser has issues.  It would never have even occurred to me that it would be a problem, but now that I think about it, it's not surprising at all that they would do something stupid like that for DRM purposes, despite the fact they already make you install a plugin to use it at all.

You can try it yourself here:

Maybe I was just misinformed then but I'm actually quite sure youtube does not support it,  because I tried to test my surround sound - which is honestly a huge pain since windows somehow removed the test settings for my system (logitech 5. 1) and that somehow wasn't true 5.1 at all.

And I've also tried this Fraunhofer thing actually but that didn't help me with my problem either - I just need to test if all speakers are placed correctly - but since this doesn't tell you which speakers are actually used (left,  right,  rear,  etc) I wasn't sure it works at all...

But I see, I mean it did play my speakers separately (just didn't help lol)

Yeah I believe you're right about YouTube.  Last I checked they weren't supporting surround.  In that case it makes a lot more sense though.  They probably never expected it would have high enough quality to use in a home theatre anyway, and even though it does now and they could add it if they wanted, the type of content on there just doesn't need it tbh.

I'm not sure what you mean by the second part though.  The purpose of that test is to read out each channel name on that channel, so you know exactly what speaker is being fed what signal, if any are skipped, etc.

I don't want to derail this though and I feel were drifting inthat direction xD I need to run those tests I mentioned earlier.  If the site works, that's going to be my recommendation, but if not, then we have to troubleshoot a UWP app which is a one way ticket to the bad place.  Problem is I'm not exactly sure how to test.  I need a sample like the thing I posted above, or a vu meter or something.

Yeah,  haha I agree it's a little off topic

well let's just say I couldn't get it to confirm my output is actually 5.1 and not some fake 5.1, precisely because windows decided to remove these surround sound options for some reason...

I'll need to make a topic about this eventually as its a very frustrating situation but I'm not actually sure how to explain the issue yet as it seems quite complicated.
