pokemon sword and shield raids not working

When I try to do a raid with other people it always reaches the 3 min time limit and times out even though i see lots of people around the raid point. And i made sure the internet is on and i can see people so its clearly on so is there something else i have to do?

I don't think people in the overworld are the ones that gets in raid. When an online raid pops up you just need to press y, select the raid that popped up and then hope you made it quick enough in the case of a rare pokemon, like a Gigamax pokemon
