Water cooling using a 360 and 480 radiator cpu water block is from Aquacomputers. Ok so i applied thermal paste twice  hell I even did direct die cooling (der8auer direct die frame). But 2 cores on my i9 7900x at full load are hitting 82c and 90c while the rest 8 cores are in the low 60's this is with a 1.18v with a 4.7Ghz overclock. I mean surely something is wrong here and it's the same 2 cores always am not sure if it's the cpu itself or could it be the motherboard cpu socket? (motherboard: Asus Rampage Vi extreme Omega)

inadequate liquid metal application?

Well I applied on the cpu die and the water block and am pretty sure it was more then enough.

No, sorry meant I reapplied thermal paste twice so removed and reapplied and removed again and reapplied.

I guess "pics or it didn't happen". As you say it is not normal for a delidded direct-die LM setup so something must be wrong, and 99.9% of the time it is user error.

Yea no pics sorry, one thing I did notice however the bottom of the cpu some places it was like discoloration more darker then the rest of the golden surface???

Check VCCIO and PLL voltage. Use one drop of liquid metal for die and reuse the rest for heatsink for the thinnest layer possible.

CPU: Ryzen 5800X3D | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Elite V2 | RAM: G.Skill Aegis 2x16gb 3200 @3600mhz | PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 G3 | Monitor: LG 27GL850-B , Samsung C27HG70 |
GPU: Red Devil RX 7900XT | Sound: Odac + Fiio E09K | Case: Fractal Design R6 TG Blackout |Storage: MP510 960gb and 860 Evo 500gb | Cooling: CPU: Alphacool ST30 420mm rad, Alphacool CPU and GPU Core LT and Core blocks, D5 pump and res combo

Vccio and Pll voltages are on auto always left them on auto but never had this problem before.

GN had a video about Vega heat sink contact to the HBM and die where they used some pressure sensitive paper. If you could track that down it would sure be useful for your situation.

I have 2 cores in my 12 core that are like that, I'm not sure why but they can hit mid 80s to 90. It was hitting 100 but my board i can manually set throttling so thoes two cores will slow down to keep under 90. Oh hey we have almost the same chip i have a 7920, interesting that I also have two hot cores.
