Current mobo is the "ASUS ROG Maximus IX Code Z270"

Recently purchased new gpu and figured id upgrade the cpu as well. I went ahead and ordered the 9900k, but it seems like it may not compatible with my current mobo. Looking for some advice on whether my current mobo is compatible; if it is, great. If not, what would be some reccomendations in the 300 to 600 price range. Im not really looking to water cool, I may SLI and I primarily use my computer for music and gaming.

Thanks a ton for any reccomendations.

That CPU is not compatible with that motherboard, unless you try BIOS hacking; in which case you wouldn't be asking this question :P

I would probably go for a z390-Aorus Ultra. Looks like a solid boards, suitable for even OC'ing the i9.

Or y'know, the 3900X/3950X is totally an option too; which would be great for music production (not as good for gaming, but not that large of a difference).

SLI is dead now in most game and not worth it too.

Yes the Z390 Aorus Ultra is a really good motherboard, I use it for my 8700k and I could go to 5,2GHz at 1,33v stable (but I won the lottery :P).

Much appreciated friend! I dont really want to screw around in the bios to force compatibility. Ill do some research on that board you reccomended. What is the difference between the Ultra and master models?

If you are interested in reading about older boards to 8th/9th gen CPU's:

(Not that I would recommend doing this... At all. Very possible to brick a board).

The Master is just a bit more luxurious board.

Z390 Aorus Ultra vs. Master:

- Master has better audio DAC

- Master has a reset/power switch on the back

- Oh, they look different. Similar, but the Master is a bit darker.

Otherwise pretty similar boards.

Im going to pull the trigger on one of the aorus boards and give my current set up to my little bro. Hes getting my 1080 ti too. I hope he shits a brick.

Tempted by that aorus extreme board, but damn its expensive. Wonder if there will be black friday / cyber monday deals.

The Aorus Extreme is only gonna be really worth it if you want the Thunderbolt 3 ports on the backpanel.

Although it is one of the most elaborate Z390 boards I guess.
