I suppose I am kind of looking for a build guide of some sort. It has been a few years since I was up to date with where products fit in terms of performance and with the launch of the 3950X tech has peaked my interest again.

I am looking to upgrade my system to handle 1440p but that is not the reason for this post because recently my cousin has asked me to help him upgrade his computer.

He wants to play all of his games at 1440p 60fps with settings maxed.

Our goals are basically the same except I do not need a CPU upgrade, and he basically wants a whole new setup.

To make things simple, I just want to get a build list for a system capable of his demands for 1440p gaming.

1. Budget & Location

Budget is something I would like to get a ballpark idea of based on a 1440p 60fps gaming experience. In other words, what does the typical 1440p 60fps capable setup (including monitor) cost in CAD$?

I live in Saskatchewan, Canada.

2. Aim

The primary and most intensive purpose of this system is intended to be playing the following games at 1440p 60fps:

Destiny 2, Sekiro, Dark souls franchise (1-3), Doom 2016 and eternal, Master chief collection, Fallout franchise, ARK survival evolved.

There is no interest for a "gamer aesthetic" with this build. No RGB please.

3. Monitors

This is another part that I am looking for recommendations for. I have watched a couple reviews for high refresh rate 1440p monitors (ASUS ROG swift, and Pixio PX7 Prime) and I like what I see with them.

4. Peripherals

None needed ATM.

5. Why are you upgrading?

-old system is barely able to play modern games at 1080p.

-old system is a small form factor build with a R9 280 that has memory issues causing a massive bottleneck.

-mITX board from the Intel 4xxx series chips (Z170 era) does not have enough USB ports.

-cousin wants ATX form factor.

Note:

I will only be able to check responses to this post again in about 15-20 hours of posing this thread so if I don't reply I'm not ignoring responses!

I look forward to any responses I get and thank you for taking the time to read my first post in a few years.

For 1440p gaming at only 60hz i would highly recommend getting a gtx 1070 on your local used platforms or eBay (eBay shipping is tough in Canada) For getting a cpu just for gaming the new ryzen 5 3600 is a great price to performance chip for strictly gaming and light content creation while the ryzen 7 2700x is a good performer all around for a little less but is a little more power-hungry as well as higher TDP. Im here to take anymore questions

Hello and welcome back,

Here is a nice entry level build for 1440p 60Hz (144Hz in fact since I picked a better monitor) :
