Needed Advice on Productivity and Gaming Build

Hello all,

 

I am a first time pc builder and am in need of some help. I want to build a personal machine that is a good compromise between work productivity and gaming performance. My mainly used softwares would be SolidWorks, some MatLab and coding in C, small amounts of Photoshop, and maybe running a linux VM. For games, I play almost all genres, but some key games I play would be Civ VI, CoD MW (2019), For Honor, and RDR II. My intended res would be 1440p at 144hz. My original idea was to run a RX 5700 XT and a R9 3900X with 32gb ram and a couple nvme drives, but I think I would have budget for a better graphics card but I couldn't get good info on a better GPU that could do both aspects of my use as well balanced as my former choice. Do you guys have any ideas or recommendations?
