I'm planning on building a system with a Ryzen 7 3800x for gaming and work, but I can't choose between these three GPU models. Can anyone give me any insights or tips?
My choices:
- RTX 2070 Super

- RX 5700 XT
- RTX 2080 Super

For games I have Fallout 4, GTA 5, and I'm planning on buying RDR2 when it releases on Steam.

The 2080S is the best of the 3 and under 900$.

But since you have "only" 60Hz, the 5700XT is the best option.

5700XT is often called entry to 4k 60hz by a lot of hardware reviewers, so i don't see a reason the 2080S would add much to the experience besides costing 2x as much.  If you were irrationally allergic to Radeon cards then 2070S, the 2080S is for if you are allergic to your own money.

If you go with 5700XT, id recommend Sapphire or Powercolor partner model cards for 410-440$ price range, with 2070S the reference card is usually the best option per $.  with the money left over you would of spent on a 2080S you could get a HDR 4k 60hz Monitor like a BenQ EW3270U, or a huge range of good higher refresh 120-144hz 1440p panels.  Or just steaks, steaks taste good

i have a "normal" 2080 and it runs everything above 60 fps.

Battlefield V (if that's the newest one i can't remember) with everything on ultra and rtx on ultra runs at 78-67fps

new COD MW runs at 110-120. everything else i play i cap at 144.

so the 2070s which is almost as fast as a 2080 should be fine.

though i've heard people had problems with RDR2 on pc with optimization being a little problem and giving lower fps.

so if your budget is capable of getting the 2080s then it's going to make you very happy for a long time.

if you wanna save some money and get the 2070s then it will make you very happy for a long time but probably be slower a little faster than the 2080s but that's soo far in the future that you shouldn't worry about it for a long time

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

I'm still waiting for the Steam release of RDR2 in a few weeks anyways so hopefully any issues would have been largely resolved. Definitely considering the 2080 Super right now to last another half decade at least.

i got my build one year ago and i'm expecting it to work well for the next 3 or 4 years before i will need to upgrade it.

feels wierd thinking that at one point my 2080 is going to be old and outdated.

Ampere hasn't even launched yet and there have already been rumors of 40-series GeForce RTX cards.

wasn't the roumor about 30-series but they weren't official with any actual evidence to back it up.

that's the version i've heard atleast

would be impressed if the 40 series got leaked before the 30 even got launched or teased

tbf, i do consider all the 2080s insanely over-priced, but the GPU market is lacking real progress, doesn't look to be changing quickly, and likely the 2080S will indeed last you a few years.  There is a chance when Intel, ARM, and Changsha Jingjia Microelectronics all enter the market (even if Changsha is only in China) some competition will finally drive prices down, and price to performance back up, but thats probably 2-3 years off if it ever happens at all.

A few months ago i would of said "Wait for Big Navi" (Radeon 2080/2080ti competitors), but with the upswing of Threadripped prices being what they are, and with leaks indicating AMD/Radeon was going to push the 5500 out at 240$ instead of 160-200$, also looking back at the "Jebait" incident of 450$ 5700XT through more cynical eyes, i don't think AMD is going to save us that much on price to performance, so why wait.

and I think there's also the fact that a lot of Amazon reviews of 5700-series cards note poor drivers. I rarely hear of similar issues on the Nvidia Supers though.

if you want to keep it alive as long as possible then you buy the most expensive one the Super 2080, they scale pretty well compared to

The 5700XT seems like a good go, and i would buy it today had i to make a "cheapish" pc, but AMD Drivers still scare me, i might be burned from the older days.

you still have feature sets on the RTX that you don´t have like the Raytracing. but is the 2080 and 2070 really strong enough cards, that it will be a usable feature on any of them, or shall you wait for the 30xx to actually god for an RTX card..

it looks brilliant on some games.... and at 60hz you might be able to use it with som DLSS on the 2080 super on most games in 1440

I don't think I'm gonna Ray Tracing that much since I vastly prefer BF1 to BF5. I might use it so as to not waste the bundled CoD game though.

Then again I wear glasses so I don't know if I'm going to see any difference.
