So i started using my new laptop and at first it worked fine (now it doesn't and i'm out of warranty coverage). Then the screen started flickering to black and sometimes magenta and green lines would appear horizontally on the screen. It seemed like it worked at some angle so i tried to find that angle every time. Now the screen is completely black but turns on if i press hard on the bottom of the screen where the connector to the screen is. Can anyone diagnose if the problem is physical and if so on which component.

Thank you

It sounds like it is an issue with the LCD Cable. What kind of laptop is it? It could be that the cable is just loose or it could be damaged. How far out of warranty are you? It may be worth contacting the manufacturer anyway to see if they can do anything about it. If they can't then its time to either bust out the tool kit and a guide from ifixit, or go to a local shop and see what they can do

It's an Acer Aspire 7. It was used altogether for 2 weeks so i don't get how the damage could be on mechanical parts. I'm just a month or less out of warranty but the bigger problem could be that i'm from Europe but ordered from the USA Newegg. I'm quite tech savvy and repaired a lot of machines myself so i think i could fix it myself i just have to know what need fixing. I'd want to avoid any certified repairs because that would probably cost me a lot.

I mean if it is that new then I would just check to make sure the cable is not loose or anything like that, you may want to try any and all driver updates as well, but it seems like maybe the cable is not in all the way especially if pushing on it helped

Probably shouldn't revive this thread but i've started to use the laptop again and it's driving me crazy. So after replugging the cable many many times i guess the issue is not the one of being not completely plugged in. Since you've been so kind with answers thedangerine do you think i should replace just the cable or is there any possibility that the connector on the actual panel is the problem? Thanks
