Is thunderbolt 3 over usb 3.0 pointless for HDD nas?

Go to solution Solved by Mira Yurizaki,

The one thing Thunderbolt has over USB is you can daisy chain Thunderbolt devices. The whole point of Thunderbolt based hard drive enclosures is to take advantage of this.

If you don't have any Thunderbolt devices you can daisy chain, then there's no point.

Hi guys, I'm buying a NAS and my pc has thunderbolt 3 so I am considering getting a NAS which supports thunderbolt 3 to use it as an external drive for gaming. (I know it might be a bit janky, but I want the option to do it) But my question is: Since the HDDs I will use in the NAS only have a transfer speed of 600 mbps and USB 3.0 has a transfer speed of up to 5 gbps, is there any point of buying a more expensive thunderbolt 3 NAS with 40 gb/s over a conventional USB 3.0 NAS if the HDDS will never surpass the USB transfer speed anyways?

Thanks.
