I believe I have upgraded my rig to the point of no return and need to start anew with most likely, a new mobo, memory, cpu, gpu.

My current specs are below. I have been seriously considering the i5 9600k paired with a solid mobo and probably a 2070 super? I currently mainly use the rig for some Vive VR, a lot of 3840x1080 F1 racing and other gaming (hitman 2, dishonored, xcom 2, outer worlds, etc...), for audio engineering, and I have a ton of hard drives so I prefer a motherboard with plenty of Sata options. I don't really plan on streaming or video editing anytime soon. Just looking for the next major upgrade that should last me a few years (at least the core system mobo, cpu, memory, etc...)

Money isnt a major concern but would like to stick to around 1000$ for the upgrade

current rig is asus rog hero 7, i5 4590k, 980ti hybrid, 32 gb ddr3, and like 6-8 hard drives (ssd and hdd)

Thanks for any insights

thanks. couple hopefully quick questions... Is this Ryzen very forwards compatible? (able to hold up to reasonably high end/enthusiast gaming for at least 3 years?) Also, with no AMD experience, is it that different from setting up a pc with an intel CPU? Lastly, would the evga 2070 hybrid (water cooled) give me much of an OC/temp bonus over a fan version?

?

current rig is asus rog maximus hero 7, i5 4690k, 980ti hybrid, 32 gb ddr3, and like 6-8 hard drives (ssd and hdd), i also have a cooler master cpu water cooler AIO which is around 2 years old, and am not sure if thats worth using or not.

Also, does it make more sense for me to try to sell my old parts as a complete build, or part by part?

Thanks for any insights

Which PSU, case?

You'd need a new CPU, MBO and RAM, maybe even a PSU if it's from the time of the CPU.

The water cooler is probably fine if it's really 2 years, they usually last 3 years or longer.
