WiFi 6 motherboard to a WiFi 5 router

Yes, 802.11ax is backwards compatible with 802.11ac (and a/b/g/n). You won't be able to use its new features though.

That is my current setup, different motherboard, but I have the same Intel AX200 chipset. Works great! My router is an old Wave 1 AC router, but I am still getting about 500mbps, which is about all I could expect out of that router.

 

Get the latest drivers from Intel's page for WiFi. I am not sure was Asus has on their site, but if they are any older than about 30 days, you will want Intel's. That chipsets early drivers had a bug that limited performance.
