Hey all, I have a problem. I have a Qualcomm Atheros AR945x wireless card in my system. I have been planning on upgrading, but that won't happen any time soon. So, recently I upped my system to an i7 4930k on a Asus Sabertooth x79 motherboard. Ever since I did that, my WIFI card randomly stops connecting to wifi. Nothing seems to fix it permanently or consistantly; sometimes a reboot fixes it, some times it doesn't. Sometimes reseating the antennas fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes reinstalling works, etc. I have researched, and found nothing besides "reseat the antennas", which does nothing for me most of the time. One solution I came across was to reset my network settings; I did that, and it fixed it for a whole couple days. It just keeps coming up with "Unable to connect to WiFi".Any ideas? I would rather not shell out on the wifi card I want right now, a 100$ 802.11ac 4x4 card (we have a 4x4 router to go with it), since I have other priorities (a new phone, powersupply, etc). Thanks, and just as a side note Ethernet is impossible where my system is. Oh, and one thing I noticed; the card shows up in Device Manager as "Qualcomm Atheros AR947x Wireless Network Adapter #2, where it is the only one of its kind in the system. Thanks.

Edit: forgot to mention that it isn't just refusing to connect, its disconnecting.

If you haven't already:

Start menu -> Settings -> Network/Internet ->  Network Reset -> Reset now -> Restart

Quickest way to fix anything software wise.

Afterwards, I'd dig into the BIOS to disable any power management features as well as prevent Windows from managing network card power as well under the driver and adapter options.

I tried resetting my network, only worked for a few days. Set windows to be unable to turn it off to save power, that didn't help. Didn't see any PCIe or card settings at all in the bios - it has a power saving mode, but on Asus Optimized and Normal it didn't work either so that shouldn't be it. I am on power saving mode as of a few minutes ago, my psu cant supply enough power to my pc for games. Shouldn't affect the card tho.

Depends on which power rails are being stressed. PCIe for a desktop graphics card is a mix of the 12v and 3.3v PSU rails and Mini PCIe heavily favors 3.3v and 1.5v. If your 3.3v rail on your PSU was not able to put out enough power or failing, you could see issues.

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Power-Supply-Units/cxm-series-config/p/CP-9020059-NA#tab-tech-specs this is the power supply I have right now, the 500gb one. My system has a i7 4930k at 4.125ghz (or somewhere around there, board came overclocked and stable) on a Sabertooth x79 motherboard. I have an XFX RX 580 GTS XXX 8gb gpu @ 1386mhz and that wifi card both occupying x16 slots (as it is right now, my 1x lane isn't available. I should be able to shuffle it and fix that though). They am in an NZXT H510i using the 2 stock fans, as well as a Kraken x62 280mm aio cooler with its stock fans. I have two drives on my system, a tb sata ssd and a 7200rpm tb hdd. I am not familiar with the rails on power supplies, but from what you said, maybe I should try swapping the wifi card to a x1 slot?

Feel free to, but trying to pull too much power than your PSU can provide isn't good for your PSU and in turn all your other components.

I should be able to order a power supply either tonight or this Friday, tho I wasn’t planning on it. Looks like I’m barely within my psu wattage limit if I drop my Rx 580 clock down, but that’s living on the edge of 500w within margin of error. was planning on getting a phone, but anyways... can’t risk blowing my psu, I need it for another build. Thanks
