Lost screw could kill my laptop

I Was taking apart An old Laptop to replace the hard drive since trying to install windows 10 on the one its got with a fresh wipe isnt working. One of the screws went in side the chassie ani have no idea where it went,. i cant hear it so im not sure it it fell out. it was a crew tha held my drive in its cradle. Is it common this kind of screw would bridge a contact and fry the thing? Im trying ot take the bottom off but its being a huge pain in the ass and im getting tired of trying. Its an old HP pavilion d7 - 3170
