Hello, this has been troubling me for like months

Whenever I play games that I've seen on videos that being played with the same specs of mine, the results from expectations are way less compared to youtube videos.

PC Specs:

Ryzen 5 2600

RX 5700 XT

2X8 16gb 3200Mhz Team Elite Vulcan TUF
MSI A320 PRO-VH PLUS

SeaSonic s12II 520w

WD 7200rpm HDD

Tecware Nexus M case

144hz curved monitor

Example:

When I play The Outer Worlds, on the first start of that game my fps runs really smooth but then when I was in need to go to a town on the game, my fps drops down to like 40-50.

When I enter buildings my fps really runs smooth but on the outside, not. Same goes for Kingdomcome Deliverance.

Also with Fallout 4, my fps averages from 80 but when I look down on my feet, my fps increases.

On the game Hellblade Senua's sacrifice, also with forza horizon 4 the game ran very smooth with 99%GPU utilization.

speaking of utilization. Whenever the FPS drops, the utilization of the GPU also drops.

I'm just thinking the games nowadays are just not that optimized and thinking there isn't something wrong with my pc.

PLEASE HELP.

My rig started from scratch, if you know what I mean. I didn't paid attention to my mobo as I don't oc my cpu.

On farcry 5 my rig ran fine only with a 60 fps monitor.. err ....more like a TV... Back when I had that.

I wonder if your motherboard is holding your 5700XT back from performing at its fullest? I'm not exactly sure where it stands, but I know that my b350 motherboard is holding my 5700 back by about 15% just from looking up the compatibility with it.

I could sell out my mobo and buy a b450m instead. Still I can't overclock to 4.1ghz along with my psu. I'll do mild overclock to 3.9 if that is ok with my psu and if I upgraded my mobo.

nah, i think that 520W psu is good enough for OC.

It sticks around 20-30% of utilization.

No Problem there. Sure your FPS are too low? Fallout 4 is a mess and even the best PCs have drops. Godrays and Shadows are one of the main Reasons.

Yeah, and I've read a post that it is recommended to cap the fps at 60 or the game will be a mess.

But the outer worlds though. I really really like the game but I don't like having unstable fps when I go into towns. My fps only becomes really smooth when I go inside buildings.

This could be because of a number of reasons. Have you uninstalled all drivers from your PC using DDU and installed the latest drivers? Do you have any pending Windows updates? What settings are you playing these games at? Do you get better fps on the lowest settings?

Depends on the game and depends on how well you've optimized your PC for gaming.

I have the reference rx 5700 xt card.

I tried DDU, my benchmark boosted up a bit by 50 on superposition. I've updated my windows to the latest it can be. I'm playing at ULTRA on the outer worlds and the drops still occur with the lowest settings, only a 10 fps increase from the lowest fps.

I'll have the overclocking method as an option. Is there anyway to solve this issue?

I've been also thinking about upgrading my cpu but that costs x2 the cost from buying a motherboard. (R5 3600)

i think getting a new board is better idea if you do upgrade, incase maybe you aren't seeing the clock speeds you want, or likewise plan to overclock down the line or upgrade to newer ryzen eventually.  Ryzen 4000s is still going to work on a good B450 which can be had for cheap now, get something like a MSI Tomahawk or a ASRock B450(M) Pro4, or ASRock Fatality K4 if budget is a concern and call it a day.  All of those are more then good enough to overclock the heck out of a 2600/2700, or even the 3000 series equivalents (don't run PBO and Auto OC if 12-16 core part tho, manual 1.325v overclock should still be fine even on those though, and is currently still superior to PBO or AutoOC imo)

Ryzen 3000s weird, you can get higher sustained all-core clocks with less volts/watts, at trade-off of very mild hit to stability (like very very very very mild), but it doesn't like high sustained voltages, yet hits 1.45-1.5 very briefly when stock, coming out of sleep states to boost etc.  With Ryzen 2000 being a bit more friendly to high, sustained, all core voltages (1.39-1.4ish iirc) obviously the PSU limitation becomes a problem even if mobo can handle it.

That said, could just be a driver issue etc... I could ask if you are running ram in duel channel, but i'd presume you are

That's pretty strange. I'd guess that you should get a good 20 fps difference between the lowest and highest settings in The Outer Worlds. Your fps should be going UP when indoors and DOWN when outdoors as well. Are you in 4K resolution?

While gaming, press Alt+F9 to start recording and Alt+F9 again to stop recording. Record a 30 second to 1 minute clip of your issue while using MSI Afterburner to show what your hardware is doing and so we can see your issue happening. Show your CPU clock speed as well as everything else. Usage, temps, etc, etc.
