Help, I can't ping my freshly set up freenas box, even though it can acces the internet.

Hello guys,

I just got the last parts for my freenas build and put it together right away, installed freenas 11.2 tried to access the web gui for the config aaaand nothing... host unreachable.

Confused as I was/am I checked the ethernet cable( all in) then I tried to ping the gateway (successful) Tried to ping google(successful again) afterwards I tried to ping my computer from the nas which results in a "Host is down" error.

My next thought was that maybe the network from the new flat I moved to doesn't allow to reach other devices except from the gateway, but nope, I can ping my phone from my laptop just fine. Next I tried to play with the network settings of the nas, but given my lack of experience regarding network config stuff, that yielded no result.

Can anyone help me out of this misery?

Thanks in advance :)

I don't know much about this subject but I'll give a suggestion anyway. Have you tried port forwarding your NAS ip in the router?

Me neither, but wouldn't that just help me if I had problems access it from outside the network?

I think that depends on how you were trying to ping your computer from the nas. If you were trying to ping the computer's specific ip internally, it should work. Could be a firewall thing but it seems like you can't ping both from nas or to nas so perhaps something is still not configured right on the nas box. I'm sure a networking genius will reply with better knowledge.
