I have a Asus B350-Plus motherboard with an Ethernet cable connected to the back of it. I have been using this connection for half a year with the internet going in and out a couple of times. Each time it was only 20 minutes or so. Where I am at now is the computer cannot find the internet, and the back of the computer does not display any lights on the port telling me data is being read or sent. This lead me to try to reinstall the drivers for the port which I did. I found the newer version and a older version than I had previously installed. I attempted to use both versions to fix the issue, but I found same result as before. I am wondering what I should try to fix this issue. Would buying a network card fix this and I can get a better motherboard later down the road?

Before buying anything, I would check the physical components first. Ensure that the cable used is up to par, meaning, has no crimps, strains, tears, rips. Ensure that the connectors are not damaged. If possible, replace the cable with one that you know works. Move onto the ports on the switch (modem/router) and spray them with air duster, and insure all 8 pins are not damaged.

After all of that, if you are still running into issues, definitely purchase a cheap NIC card to run on PCIe, or a cheap USB to Ethernet adapter listed below.

Hope this helps!
