Posted November 15, 2019 Hey all. I'm pretty sure my secondary laptop drive is dying but now I'm confident it's just windows being windows. In file explorer, only one partition shows up but in Minitool Partition Wizard i can still see everything, just not access any of it. Any ideas on how to fix this without re-imaging the drive? or is that my only option? Posted November 15, 2019 Can you take a screenshot from Disk Management? Looks like you just need to map drive letters to the missing partitions. Off the bat I concur..^This. Rightclick the STEAM 'partition' and click the Add/Remove/Change drive letter selection in the list, make it a D 11 minutes ago, FlpDaMattress said: Hey all. Posted November 15, 2019 Author Should also mention i had the drive in a drive toaster (external sata dock) when i took the screenshots; That was the most life i ever got out of it. if it's in my laptop, it doesn't show up at all. I'll try to get back to yall when i can Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1123917-windows-only-showing-one-partition-but-everything-is-visible-in-minitool/#findComment-13048654 Share on other sites
 Posted November 15, 2019 Oh I see. Put it back into the toaster and look at it's SMART data (CrystalDiskInfo or any number of other utilities). If your computer isn't even detecting the drive when it's plugged in, I would try it in another computer (direct connection over SATA - not through a toaster) and see if it shows up there. Could be the SATA port on the (laptop?) is dying, or the drive itself could be dying. Posted November 15, 2019 Looks like it's only mounting one partition of the GPT drive containing both your Ubuntu install and steam. Is diskpart able to see the disk using list disk? It is not, which is unfortunate. 1 hour ago, dalekphalm said: If your computer isn't even detecting the drive when it's plugged in, I would try it in another computer (direct connection over SATA - not through a toaster) and see if it shows up there. I can try reassigning a drive letter (since i didn't catch that earlier) but i won't have access to another PC until later tonight. Posted December 10, 2019 Author This thread is dead but i still feel like i should give an update. The problem was totally physical but i plugged in another 1tb HDD i had laying around and heard the click of death. Thanks Seagate. But when i threw the Toshiba drive that vanished in Windows back in, Minitool Partition Wizard picked it up, gave it a new partition, reinstalled my steam library and it's been fine ever since. One thing that threw me off however was my laptop would still boot into Ubuntu which i kept on a 32gb partition on that HDD. I don't know how or why, but whatever.
