I have a XFX Radeon rx 560 at the moment and I plan on upgrading to a rtx 2070 super. I wont have the money until January so I'm really debating if I should wait for the rtx 3000 series to be released. I have everything I need for my build except my upgraded gpu. I am interested in ray tracing but with the significant performance drops on the rtx series, im not so sure its worth it. Either way i would still buy the 2000 series regardless of ray tracing performance. Should I wait or no?

if it takes 2 months to get the money, it's pointless to think about it now anyways

Wait 2 months to get a new card or wait like 8, I'd just get a new card when you have the cash.

Alternatively just get an RX 5700 XT which is cheaper for relatively similar performance, and you get to keep the same driver suite which is convenient.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I would 2nd the recommendation on the RX 5700 XT if you are going to get something now anyway.  I think it is only overall something like 6% less in performance compared to the 2070 Super and even beats the 2070 Super in quite a few games.  At $100 cheaper, the 5700 XT it is a huge bargain.

As far as the RTX features, from what I have seen currently it doesn't make much sense to run ray tracing on any card except a 2080ti as the 2080ti seems to be the only card that will give acceptable ray tracing performance above 60 fps on all games even at lower resolutions.  For example I was reading an article that indicated you could only run Control at 1080p on medium ray tracing settings if you wanted about 60 fps.  Metro on a 2070 Super with ray tracing on would probably only get you 30-40 fps if that.  So in my opinion, Ray Tracing is still very much a useless gimmick unless you are talking a 2080ti and even then, just barely especially considering that ray tracing support in games is still in its infancy and is only going to get more demanding.  The next gen Nvida cards may change this but if your deciding between a 5700XT and a 2070 Super, I wouldn't let the ray tracing support sway you.

This comment pretty much sums it up, RTX is not really worth having unless it is on the 2080Ti, due to the performance hit.

I think I may look out for a Black Friday 5700 XT bargain and buy one as a stop gap until next years crop of cards come out.
