Thoughts: While the price is attractive, I think it's not enough to save HTC's mobile branch, they would need something breathtaking right now if they want to rescue the department.

I remember when HTC used to be the only competitor to samsung - the EVO, the early Desire models( I had the HD one, it had support from xda for years and it still fucking works), Titan, the "One" based front facing speakers, and the one and only legendary HD2. HD2 was released 2009 and you could flash run w/e you want on that fucker - android, windows, fucking ubuntu. Just checked and there are still enthusiast playing around with it.

And then they believed their own hype too much and this is where we end up ... they thought they can pull an apple but they just pulled a worse LG.

Rest in Pepperoni.

I'd say HTC's problem was a combination of an over-reliance on gimmicks with the difficulty of competing against an electronics giant like Samsung.  Its Korean rival was always going to have a massive amount of clout where HTC was an independent outfit whose reputation was mainly staked on its legacy with Windows phones; it succeeded early on with Android because there were so few good options.  Once Samsung turned its eye of Sauron toward the consumer smartphone space, HTC was finished.
