Google Home speaker cancels out voice commands to my phone

Is there any way to stop Google Home from canceling out voice commands to my phone? For example, if I want to reply to a text, as soon as I give the command to read or reply to a text, Google Home picks up the question and takes over telling me it doesn't have the capability to send or read texts.

I basically need to whisper to my phone now to use phone specific commands because the speaker can seemingly pick up my voice from 2 rooms away. It's super frustrating. Any ideas?

Not sure this is the answer you want but I have two ideas:

  • get rid of the google home - it can't interfere if it's not in the house
  • type your texts instead of using voice to text - google home can't interfere if it can't hear you

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
