What do you guys name your systems?

Just curious but what do all of you guys name your systems?

 

My systems are currently just named BERWYN-WS (my main workstation and gaming pc), BERWYN-RENDER (machine i do my renders on so i dont tie up my main rig, also doubles as a pc powering the tv in front of my bed), and BERWYN-LAPTOP (just a laptop).

 

All the laptops my family members use are also named OWNER-LAPTOP with OWNER being who is using it.

I named a desktop brick once because it was square and not very fast.  Not super original.  I have a friend who has named his systems after appropriate natural phenomena.  The storage servers are named after cloud formations I think.  One was “cumulus”

 

my favorite was the WiFi link he leaves permanently open and “unprotected” hoping someone will try and wardrive him.

dude used to do computer security for naval intelligence and he has a soft spot for obscure UNIXes.  I’m not going near that thing. *shudder*

At work, everyone's computers are named by the user for quicker identification.  At home, I usually go by the name of the case (or case manufacturer if the case name is just a code).  For instance, my HTPC is named Silverstone.  Super creative, right?

Only my Laptop has a generic LAPTOP-DSFDSFDSFSFSFDSF type of name.

 

So, MOST of my machines have been named with the other part of my online name since the Pentium II, because up until recently I've never bothered with having two of them online, and the Mac's never really had official names.

At the office all the machines are named with country-city-hardwareserial, but only because clearly they got sick of doing stuff like your office does, because most of the machines are laptops.

 

And recent machines don't have bluetooth, for some reason.

Server and Desktop, the 2 naming conventions i use..

 

remember teasing a mate by calling his wifi pornbay, in 2 years he never changed it, then one day he had a giant meeting with all of management (he was a SAP consultant) and he put his PC on to the "projector" and it just said in the corner of the screen.. "could not connect to pornbay" which of course was the name of his wifi, and the SVP asked what thas was.... after that... the wifi was not longer called pornbay.

my laptop is named THICC-BOI lol I know the name sound stupid but it's an alienware and man is the thing thicc

ITT: building an attack profile DB for teh hacking

 

for some reason long long ago i named my computer stick, and ever since then every reinstall or upgrade to it has caused a doubling down on the name, and it spread. so now my computer is OAK, my media PC is BROOK, my server is THEFOREST,  laptop is GRANITE (old ROG gaming laptop), my chore board display PC is IVY. all natural sounding names that only tangentially relate to the function or form of the PC.
