History of rgb in pcs?

Retro_R

I've always wondered what the history of rgb in computers is. Not really single color led stuff, but real rgb. Like what we have today. However, there aren't really any resources on this topic, are there any resources on this?

Just because it's new doesn't mean we shouldn't care about the history of it.

The whole RGB craze began around 5 or 6 years ago when Corsair and Razer showed off RGB mechanical boards at CES...2014 (I think). Then all hell let loose and every major PC brand started making their own RGB product lineup.

Before that PCs didn't have any RGB in them. Everyone used single color lights to illuminate the inside of his rustbucket Gaming PC. The most popular was blue for some reason.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus ROG Strix B650E / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Powercolor RX 7900 XTX Red Devil/ EVGA 750W GQ / NZXT H5 Flow

An abbreviated history:

For a long time, we didn't have RGB lighting.

And then one day, we did.

And Red. Red was also insanely popular.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

Red makes sense.  Red LEDs are cheap.  They’ve been able to make red LEDs for a long time.  Green was next. Soon after green, and purple (which makes a sort of white if you filter it with yellow) blue was invented though.  Blue was the hardest color to create.  Very expensive for a while.

The whole reason people wanted green and blue though is RGB together can make the whole color gamut.  Someone stuck a controller on them and now there is flashy flashy.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

I remember cold cathode tubes around 10 years ago

They where the original "lighting" for the PC. the LED/RGB is a evolution of it.

And there were fans with LEDs in them. Some of them having separate red, green, and blue LEDs.

So you could claim those were the original RGB LED hardware. ?

I know you're half joking. But I have such a PC case. The Deepcool Steam Castle. I love it.

Funny thing is, I only bought mine several years ago. It was on clearance obviously.
