so uhh.. accidentally bent a few pins trying to clean off excess thermal paste

(pls no judgement)

with a steady hand and the macro lens on my phone, managed to set them back in place

without the cooler block mb detects cpu and loads bios

with cooler block, everything lights up but no display.

could i have missed a few pins and its causing a short?

tldr; did i just create a $600 paperweight?

Was it working fine before?

Double check and make sure the pins are actually in the correct position. When i doubt, lift the pads a bit higher than usual and the cpu resting on it should keep it in about the right place.

To answer your questions: Yes!

Ok, back on topic, my first assumption would be that the damage (if there is any) would likely be on the MOBO as since we are talking about bent pins, if there was a short, it would likely damage something on the MOBO.

Where would I start? From the sounds of it some of the pins are still not in the proper position, if you try realigning them you may be able to rescue the system.

If there was thermal paste on the motherboard pins, perhaps there is still some paste on the CPU pads?

hopefully I can manage

luckily it was only overflow along the perimeter of the cpu tray, i goofed and the coffee filter got caught under a few pins as I was lifting away.
