Hi all,

So I've been looking to upgrade my CPU for Christmas, I currently have an i5 7500 CPU with a GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM and corsair 550W PSU and I was looking at getting an i5 9400f but other people on reddit suggested a ryzen 3600/3600x. Would it be worth it to get the ryzen 3600/3600x? I've heard they run hot so is there anyway to combat this problem? And also will that PSU be enough for my PC?

3600 is more comparable to the locked 9700/8700. Faster than the 9400F in every way

Even a hyper 212 black will do, it's hot because of concentrated heat source, not that there's a lot of it (not even 100w)

No, sorry it's the Corsair CX 550W PSU. Will that be enough?

Okay so at the moment, it's looking more like a 3600 then and okay, will research that before I get paid.

you can oc the 2600 very nice and its cheap

you put that money into other parts of your system, like a better mobo with better vrms

more/better/faster/tighter ram

larger data storage, ssd's hdd's

better cooling

gaming dont need no 8 cores

Do you think there is something better that I could get? Not trying to sound confrontational, I'm just wondering.

I was just listening to about 3 hours of bullzoids actually overclocking hardcore channel, doing exactly what your doing, wanting a new system. I got the basics down, but i get lost on which mobo model to buy, and only narrowed it down to the two companies and 2 or 3 mobo models. not based on any mobo features, just how the bio's is over-all, how good quality the boards are. i dont need a lot of features, just 3 or 4 usb, lan, wifi. some require a lot of usb ports which is harder to find, because they will use 2 usb ports for 2 web cams, a mouse slot, a keybord slot, a printer slot, an external hdd slot.

Not anything worth the money if you're not looking to either game at higher resolutions or just be an enthusiast and OC or just get the best cuz it's the best.

My 8700K at 5GHz will outperform the 3600 in games, as will the 9700K or 9900K on Intel's side.  Not by much at all, but faster is faster regardless of how you want to spin "but it does this well too!" bullshit.

You have to find the value level for yourself.

To be perfectly honest, if I was building a gaming machine for anyone but myself... I'd use the 3600.

I am still on a 4670K lol

So: sure for pure gaming his should be enough. For multithreaded work -> 3600+

Okay so another one for the 3600. I think if I do, it'll probably be that. So many people have recommended that CPU to me now!

Ah okay, I thought it was always my CPU that had the problem! What should I look at getting GPU wise for the future? I won't get one for christmas. I feel like people would judge too hard because I've technically already bought two GPU's in less than a year loool??
