Hi all,

I have to build a computer for my lab at work. we need as many PCIe slots as we can get.

The motherboard should fit in a 19 inch rack mount pc case.

Also we would like to have two hard-drives to run it in a RAID configuration for data collection and an SSD drive for booting.

And if you can suggest a case for the new computer too that will be great.

For the CPU we need it to be fast, preferable not less than 4-cores, and what kind of RAM will be compatible with it.

for now we don't require a GPU

money is not a problem, go wild :)

Thanks a lot.

Are we talking about 4u or 5u cases here, or something smaller?  ATX will max out at 7 16x PCIe slots while standard E-ATX hits, at most, 8 slots.  If you're willing to take a hit on bandwidth, mining motherboards can have up to 19 pcie x1 slots

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

What size do they need to be?

good qustion, but before I answer that I would like to point that I would like to get 7 PCIe, if I get 7 I will be so happy.

Of course the easiest answer would be "all of them should be x16" but as I don't think that will be possible here what cards we need to run:

One PCI

two  PCLe x1

One PCLe x8

two PCIe x16

and an additional two PCIe x4 would be great

we are talking about a 3u case, I think 7.

We were using H97-PRO, but I could not find anything like it.
