Gtx1050TI fake!

Hi all!

My housemate recently bought what he thought was a nvidia GTX 1050ti and was having trouble getting the driver to work (device manager showed the exclamation mark thing).

 

So I took it off his hands in an attempt to get to the bottom of it. I'm pretty sure it's a 550 just by looking at it (unless they do a single fan version of a 1050). He also sent me a screen of the Ebay listing, where it states that it's a 550ti with a  "display upgrade" 1050ti...?

 

So I'm thinking it's a 550ti hacked to show up as a 1050ti, plus they just stuck a 1050 sticker on the bottom of the card. Is there any way I can get it to be recognised as a 550ti so I can actually use it? Or even force install a 550ti driver?

 

He bought it for £40 used, which should have been the first red flag but I guess he loves a bargain!

Maybe you can try an older driver that still supports 500 series, but at worst you'll need a BIOS chip programmer, money better spent on something else.
