Hello there folks,

i've watched a lot of tests, benchmarks, and so on between these 2 CPUs... but still, i have doubts.

First of all, let me give you some infos. I'll have an Asus Z390 MOBO (of course), a 2080 Super and i'll be cooling the CPU with a Corsair H150i. (Yes this is a whole new PC, from scratch)

Now, from what i understand, both are the same CPUs, but the 9900K has a turbo to 4.7GHz on all cores and 5.0Ghz on a single core, while the KS has 5.0Ghz on all cores right out of the box (provided the BIOS is updated), correct me if i'm wrong of course.

Overclocking the 9900K to the same frequency as the KS looks like a somewhat easy task, although i'm wondering if either of them has a higher TDP and therefore is hotter (is it gonna be a problem with my AiO anyway?)

At the end of the day, considering a 50€ difference between the two where i live, which one is going to be "easier" (not requiring OC for example), more reliable, and won't give me temperature problems?

Should you need anymore info on my end, feel free to ask.

Thank you all in advance!

A Ryzen 9 will be better :D

loose a bit on the single thread side but have huge multi core gains!

K vs KS? -> KS not worth it, because just binned. OC yourself -> done -> sell it and go R) 3900X -> more multi thread perf

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂

A 9900K on 5ghz all core is the EXACT same as a 9900KS and therefore has the exact same temps and performance.

If you really need the extra 300mhz out of the box get the KS. If not, get the K.

Point is i've heard a few people having trouble getting the K to 5.0Ghz. Probably bad luck on the silicon side but still, wouldn't i avoid that risk by getting the KS?

Also, temps would be exactly the same as well? And should i be worried about them?

You're indeed right, although my main focus is going to be gaming, that's why i was going with Intel. I won't be focusing on multi-threaded activities that much.

In that case you won't even need the extra 300mhz on the other Cores...

Yes you might get lucky and can OC the K to KS level but if you don't then you lost literally no performance at all.

From what you're saying it looks like the KS is not worth it even if i'm not upgrading from the 9900K.

What about temps? From what i've seen the KS can achieve the same frequency with a lower voltage. Won't that result in lower temps?

Not in general K and KS are the same chip. Only difference is the binning. KS are guaranteed reach 5GHz with spec voltage.

When lucky a K will need less voltage than a KS to get 5GHz. This is pure silicon lottery. Also the perf difference with a OCed K in most cases is not existent because when both are 5Ghz they are exactly the same.

Also why dont you go R9?

Well for starters, it costs almost 200€ more xD
