Stuck at Undoing changes after interrupted Update

As it says, my friends mom turned her laptop off while an update had started and now it always goes to this Undoing changes screen and nothing happens. I've tried going into safe mode through hard power offs, to no avail, tried accessing safe mode through the command prompt in the USB installation media to no avail and spammed the shit out of Shift and/or F8 to no avail. I would just reinstall windows, but they don't want to lose their pictures or whatever, so is there anything I missed ? 

 

Also, I'm gonna try making a USB with a bootable OS in hopes that'll work.

 

Edit: at first it seemed the bootable windows option was working, but then it crashed.

Undoing changes may take some time. Patience is what you need.
