Hey all,

I’ve been lurking and researching a lot for my $1000 budget PC.

So far I’m leaning towards a Ryzen 3600 and 5700 XT with modest parts for everything else.

BUT I had the realization after seeing a video about flashing the 5700 XT bios on a 5700, could I manage to do a 5700 with a Ryzen 3700X? And sure enough, I can get it to work for $1000.

What do you guys think about the 3700X/5700 build and overclocking/flashingBIOS versus the conventional pick of the 3600/5700XT?

primarily gaming, no streaming, want max FPS/$ only

That depends.

If you're more into gaming than something like streaming or even content creation, then yes, I think that a Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 5700 XT will be better for you. That said, if you choose to go with the regular RX 5700 (or any GPU), avoid getting a blower style cooler on your GPU. The Sapphire Pulse is only $30 more if you buy it on Newegg.

You should not skimp out on the GPU cooling unless you are planning on replacing the cooler with a water block or something, though doing that will definitely kill your budget.

only try flashing the BIOS on the 5700 if you really know what you're doing.

If you're not streaming, you don't need the 3700x. Just get the 3600.

Build looks fine, I wouldn't get an MSI motherboard.

Definitely don't get a reference AMD card.

For an extra $10 you can get an RMX PSU, they're better.

Wait for Black Friday.

There are plenty of great MSI mobos. Lol wtf?

When you go through 4 Ryzen boards, and your current Intel board is failing, it's hard to overlook things like a shitty BIOS and say the rest of the board is fine.

I'll never recommend an MSI motherboard again.

There are dozens of us.gif!

~ sent from deeply disappointed a MSI board owner who will never buy one again...

Problem is other manufacturers aren't that much better it seems,  overpriced,  poor support (esp for everything Ryzen)

Keep fighting the good fight,  fact is MSI BIOS is shit,  as is their support.  Same as AMD GPU drivers and support.

Some people don't care / like the brand,  other people who care about quality do. Such is life... ~

Coming from the guy who says monitor resolution has no bearing on GPU choice... lol.

MSI dominates the lower budget range, where ASUS and Gigabyte both struggle. They absolutely offer better VRM than low end competitors. If you need a board for less than $120, MSI is easily the best option for VRM and quality.

And no, you don't *need* to buy a new monitor when you buy a new GPU,  get your head around that little fact lol.

(unless you really like playing at 55 fps... lol)
