The series has nothing to do with age.

7000 and 8000 are not older or younger.

The age is determined by the letter NU or MU or KU or whatever.

If you look at rtings reviews the 7000 series is pretty much as good as the 8000 without unnecessary stuff like local dimming and other features.

LG TVs suck because they have high input lag and worse uniformity.

You said that the 7000 series is "older" than 8000, which it is not.

They are released at the same time every year.

hdr is unnecessary, few applications or games support it, so unless all you're using the TV for is watching HDR bluray then it's a waste of money.

Not being able to turn off local dimming is a much bigger problem, which is why 6000 and 7000 series is better for use with a computer.

you misread i said 7000 series "AND" older, as in series. i was meaning like 6000 series...both suffer pretty much the same with hdr. sad in that aspect really
to use with computer without hdr yes i agree. in that sense its pretty damn good
wait local dimming are you talking about like when you scroll it dims? turn off game mode. it doesnt dim anymore. if the samsung detects its a computer connected you dont need game mode turned on, it automatically reduces rs like its in game mode.

this little bit rting wrote
When the input label is set to PC, the input lag is automatically the lowest possible. There is no benefit to activating Game mode within PC mode

if game mode it turned on it causes that damn dimming when scrolling and such

1) you mean lower not older if you're talking about series

2) local dimming is when the backlight dims portions of the screen taht are black, causing trailing light blotches around moving objects.

Google what local dimming in.

3) local dimming cannot be completely turned off in the 8000 series.

yea i did. guess you didnt. but hey keep arguing
Edge-lit TVs can’t just dim LEDs located behind the relevant parts of the screen (they aren’t there), and so edge-lit local dimming tends to be much less precise. Using local dimming on this kind of TV will usually lead to either horizontal or vertical bands of the screen becoming dimmer, corresponding to the locations of the LEDs on the edges. In short, if you want decent local dimming, get a direct-lit TV and not one that is edge-lit.

hense what i said all edge lit suffer from it (bad local dimming). it cant be fixed on this type of tv.

The video shows the problem with local dimming on a full array backlight.

It is not edge-lit.

And it still sucks because you get trailing halos around moving objects.

Which is why I would never recommend a tv where you cannot completely turn off local dimming.

hmmm i think we are both looking at this differently. from what im reading the better the local dimming the better the separation of the white dot to black back ground (no halo effect)
or am i misreading it? and it should be off for better separation

The issue is not the separation.

The issue is that the backlight trails behind moving objects like you can see in the video.

It looks like crap because it's like having a big circle behind a bright object on a dark background.

It's even worse when the object is moving because then there is delay where the backlight has to turn on and then off, which looks like ghosting but 100x larger.

The only 'local dimming' that is worthwhile is stuff like plasma or OLED where the individual pixels have control of their brightness, not a big circle of light several centimeters in diameter.

NU7000/7100 does not have local dimming.

8000 series does.

Manufacturers can put bigger contrast numbers on the box.

Also for normal people who use tvs to watch the news or whatever don't really notice it.

It's when you use it for gaming or PC use that you notice it horribly.
