Was it a text from February (not necessarily this year, even), and it popped up overnight or the early morning?

If so, that's known hiccup that happened to a lot of people in the past day. There was some weird cross-carrier messaging system glitch that affected multiple carriers and has been fixed since.

Hmmm, not sure got a new phone after feb. & old one got reset so not sure.
