MSI z390a pro and an Intel i5 7500.

Well I can say that is 100% incompatible..

300-series boards is for 8th and 9th gen Intel chips.

For 7th gen Intel you need 100 or 200-series.

The X470 board might not have worked with the CPU, because it might not have had a Ryzen 3000 compatible BIOS..

For the X570 board, I would have probably tried 1 stick of RAM in the board, in case certain RAM sticks or slots were broken.

Hello,

To start off I've build at least 10 computers in my life for either my friends or myself but I've never had this much trouble just getting a build to boot. I started off with a 3rd gen Ryzen build and an MSI x470 motherboard, Nvidia 2060, Corsair vengeance ram, Corsair 550 power supply, 1tb Samsung ssd. Before putting the computer in the case I assembled and tried starting it on the motherboard box(glad I did). I also wore an antistatic wristband and made sure to ground myself before opening anything. The computer would run for about 5 seconds then just boot loop. The debug LED had the CPU light lit. So I ordered a replacement ryzen CPU to see if that was the issue. New CPU did the same thing, looked into flashing the bios and found out some 3rd gen ryzens have problems with x470. So I ordered an ASUS x570 motherboard to eliminate that issue. With the new motherboard I had the same problem. So now I have tried 2 different motherboards and 2 of the same CPUs but different parts. Ended up testing the PSU with the paperclip method and it passed just fine. Looked into the issue and saw that RAM compatibility is an issue so I went ahead and ordered another set of Corsair vengeance ram that was on the list of compatible RAM taken from ASUS' website. With the new ram I had the same issue. So I gave up trying ryzen and ordered an MSI z390a pro and an Intel i5 7500. Tried to start with the new CPU and motherboard and now it starts for literally 1 second then shuts off. Again the debug light shows CPU. I went ahead and took my PSU out of my build which is a Corsair 1000w to see if maybe the CPU wire on the 550w was bad. Even with my PSU still only runs for 1 second before shutting off. I tried 3 different monitors, HDMI, DVI and VGA still nothing. I'm just at a complete loss. If anyone has any sort of info or tips please let me know. Also tried clearing CMOS on every different motherboard.

Is there a error code on the motherboard ?  The CPU red light means your having a hardware issue with CPU or mobo even, and also mobo might not like the CPU for some reason.  This i not fixable.  That red light on CPU means a CPU contact with mobo issue and not working kindly together.  It is not the RAM if it was the RAM red light would turn on ya know.

I tried with 1 stick of ram in each slot with both different Rams I have. Well shit I definitely overlooked that. I will try a 200 series board. Thank you!

Yeah which is why I tried 2 different CPUs in the first place. There is no error code and I don't have a speaker to hook up to see what the post error might be.

Oh then def its the motherboard then.  I know it blows but that red light usually means a unstable and difficult situation.  Your PSU is fine so all thats left to blame is the motherboard.  Just my two cents.

Tbh I had "CPU" light blinking on MSI 350 board when I switched out my RAM.

So these LEDs are not necessarily indicative of anything,  all I had to do was reset CMOS and it worked,  no more "CPU debug" led...

Of course it's certainly strange the OP had so many issues with these builds,  not sure, maybe one of the common parts is defective.  To be fair from reading forums and such it seems the new Ryzen CPUs have a lot of compatibility issues,  even with parts that *should* be compatible.

I suspect motherboard manufacturers not doing their homework properly, most likely.

On my new asrock x570 extreme4 the red led just means what stage of boot it is at, i went gunghoe and put both sticks of memory and plugged in two monitors and it didnt like it at all switched to one memory stick and one monitor then it would post, after first post it has been fine with both sticks. had the same thing happen with an x470 that i built for a friend.. not sure why but it seems to work.

I had tried resetting CMOS by both removing the battery and by jumping the CMOS reset pins but still wasn't able to get any sort of post. As the first reply states my current Intel motherboard and CPU aren't compatible so I have another motherboard coming. Fingers crossed this is the final fix. I have tried a replacement for every single part now. Either by ordering a replacement or using my own build to test and still nothing

I have two monitors on my build at home and I tried it on both monitors as single inputs with both my HDMI and DVI. Even tried VGA for the hell of it. I have 2 different sets of Corsair ram. A 2400mhz and 3000mhz 2 sticks of 8gb each. I tried all 2 sticks of 2400, nothing. Then tried 2 sticks of 3000, nothing. Then I tried 1 of each stick at a time and had the same problem. Have another motherboard on the way that will hopefully fix the problem. Will update tomorrow when I receive it

Yeah, I'm just saying we'll never figure out what happened,  but there seem to be a lot of issues with the new ryzen boards or CPUs so you maybe didn't even do anything wrong - we will never know! Lol

As for the Intel board, that's just bad luck / too little research,  hopefully it'll work out this time!  Fingers crossed!

Just lack of research on my part. Haven't built a PC since my last build which was an i5 3570k which is is still my current setup so I didnt pay attention to the 7th gen CPU and the 8/9th gen board I ordered. Today I'll be trying the B250 motherboard which should be 7th gen compatible. Thanks for the help!

Thank you so much! I ordered a z270 board and finally was able to boot into the bios!!! Apparently all of the ryzen boards and CPUs were just having problems and once I got the right Intel board it booted up no problem.

Heh,  yeah that's what I said, in my opinion from reading and own experience there are a lot of compatibility issues with the new Ryzen 3000 line,  probably both, board manufacturers and AMD to blame...

My experience with the B450 board was absolutely terrible,  seriously random boots into bios from desktop?   Screams XMP issue to me,  couldn't update the bios either for some reason - in hindsight that was a good thing tho,  because I returned the board and am now using my old B350 with no issues whatsoever - except the usual windows stuff lol (currently on 1803 and it's really bad,  probably going back to 1709 soon ;))

It was my first attempt at an AMD build I've always been set on Intel and Nvidia. Which is why I ended up going back to Intel after all the problems. So far I got everything installed and ran CPU and GPU stress tests and the PC is running perfectly! My friend had a budget of 1100$ which explains the 7th gen CPU but he is just gaming on 1080p so don't need anything too extreme. Looks like I will stick with Intel for now on lol. Appreciate the fast responses from everyone!
