First of all, thanks for reading. So I am building a PC for low effort gaming (I play some tripple A but mostly indie) but I need to edit in 4k for my University Degree (I don't care about GPU encoding and decoding). I have 2 build options, one off a friend and one off a professional's advice in a store. I need to know if they guy from the store is taking me for a ride or if my friend hasn't suggested the optimal build. I am going to anonymously post the two builds so it is unbiased and then if I could get recommendations on Build 1 or 2 that would be great. Thanks for all your help and if this post is innaporiate for the forum then kick me of all good.

Should I just go with the setup linus suggested on the video he did recently. I just thought I have a bit higher of a budget for CPU and Ram so I would get some other build options.

Build 1:
CPU-intel core i7-8700k
RAM-G.Skill Ripjaws 32gb DDR4, 3200mhz
MOTHERBOARD-MSI B365M Pro-VHD Motherboard
GPU-PowerColor Radeon RX580 Red Dragon 8GB
HARD DRIVE -Western Digital WD Blue 2 TB 3.5
SSD-Gigabyte Sata 2.5in 480GB
POWER SUPPLY -Thermaltake Smart BXI 80 Plus Bronze 650W
CPU COOLER - CoolerMaster i71C 120mm RGB C
CASE -NZXT H510

***TOTAL PRICE-$1,119 USD***

Build 2:
CPU -AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (comes with 120mm cooling fan)
RAM-G.Skill Ripjaws 32gb DDR4, 3200mhz
MOTHERBOARD-ASRock B450 Steel Legend
GPU-PowerColor Radeon RX580 Red Dragon 8GB
HARD DRIVE-Western Digital WD Blue 2 TB 3.5
SSD-Kingston 500GB, A2000 NVMe PCIe M.2 2280
POWER SUPPLY -Cooler Master MWE 650W
CPU COOLER- none, one that comes with the Ryzen
CASE-Antec-NX400

***TOTAL PRICE-$1,062 USD***

Again thanks for the advice :)

The ryzen one. Just because cpu has more cores.

BTW use that 50bucks to rx590 or vega series cards, or save up to 5700 or 2060S

which video editor are you using? ._.

EDIT: games should be secondary to you, but is there a pretty demanding game you're looking to play on the machine?

I use premiere pro, should've specified sorry. I think Ryzen benchmarks better for premier.

Only AAA titles recently that im looking to play is outer world and doom eternal when it comes.

for RAW PERFORMANCE, the 2nd ryzen build is better spec for spec.

But depending on your software, different specs may be preferable.

For example, if you are using Premiere Pro, it works much faster with CUDA acceleration and an Intel CPU with Quicksync. That's how Intel/NVIDIA based systems get those LUDICROUS export times.

Premiere Pro favours Intel/Nvidia systems. Would recommend the 1st config but slightly changed.

1. Either upgrade to a Z series board or change to a non-K CPU.

2. Get an NVMe SSD like a 970 evo plus or sabrent rocket

3. Get a GTX 1660 instead of the rx 580

4. That psu is kinda crap

Premiere Pro is always advised to go Intel if you can afford it, but either those builds could use plenty of fine adjustment as they don't really make sense.

The Intel build uses an i7 8700K instead of the current generation i7 9700K.

It uses a B365 motherboard which is pretty underwhelming and is locked meaning the unlocked CPU would be wasted on it, same thing applies for the memory no point getting 3200mhz memory when the motherboard caps at 2666mhz.

Premiere Pro only cares about CUDA Acceleration meaning that RX580 is next to useless.

That Thermaltake PSU is pretty bad as well.

Like you probably should ask help to put together a proper build rather than ask which one you should go from because in both instances the friend or the store seller they don't really seem to know what they are doing here.

This is what matters really. The 12 core RYZEN 9 3900X doesnt even keep up with the 6 core 9600k. Unless you are talking about RED footage then Ryzen pulls ahead

AMD Ryzen 3rd generation vs Intel 9th Gen for playback of H.264 and H.265 media

I don't see anything about the render performance in this article but i know for a fact that it only cares for CUDA and quicksync.

Okay. So you know the Ryzen build was from a pro shop. So you reccomend just starting the build from strach. Definitley think I will go intel/nvidia system.

I think what you looked at was just the overall benchmark.

Alright thanks heaps. Yeah your right, I just looked at the first bench mark.

Okay. So you know the Ryzen build was from a pro shop. So you reccomend just starting the build from strach. Definitley think I will go intel/nvidia system.

One more question. Whats the difference between the 1660, 1660 super and 1660 ti. They all have like 7 variants at different prices and I am very confused.

1660 and 1660 Ti were released together, 1660 super released recently i think a few weeks ago.

1660 and 1660 super has 1408 CUDA cores vs 1660 Ti with 1536 CUDA cores.

1660 has 6GB of GRRR5 vs 1660 super and 1660 Ti having 6GB of GDDR6.

what variants are you talking about? if its 7 variants of 1660 SUPER then honestly just get whichever one you like the look of the most and are in your budget. If you can fit it in your budget, you can also get a 1660 Ti.
