Is Firestrike really good for testing OCs? (keeps crashing)

It also doesn't help when the developer keeps blaming "3rd party overlays"...

I turned everything off GFE,  hwmonitor,  exited Afterburner which luckily still works even when it's not running.

But ultimately it's my OC thar crashes firestrike,  because the lower I set it the longer it runs before crashing...

Although I have to test this a bit more thoroughly but maybe some of you have a better insight in this and can tell me if my theory is correct.

Also,  how realistic is this I wonder,  none of my games crashes with very high OCs,  yet this thing keeps crashing - btw it just finished - 12361 points!  well but yeah?

And by no games crash I mean except MHW lol,  but the thing is that likes to crash also without any OC whatsoever,  but admittedly less frequently.

Or is it really Afterburner that causes conflicts after all?

Just my 2 cents. Find out why your PC is crashing before applying an overclock.

CPU: Ryzen 5800X3D | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Elite V2 | RAM: G.Skill Aegis 2x16gb 3200 @3600mhz | PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 G3 | Monitor: LG 27GL850-B , Samsung C27HG70 |

what is your overclock, cpu gpu etc. voltage. Just saying this kinda hinders our ability to help :)

I do... It's more just curiosity why this test is so finicky,  I can throw pretty much any OC at Time Spy but this one's weird... And since the developer on Steam said it's 3rd party overlays that got me thinking,  and indeed it only worked when I really turned off any monitoring software I had running,  but also my lowest OC,  so I gotta work my way up now I guess to test this ...

Not really - because my question, simplified, is "Do 3rd party overlays like Afterburner,  GFE and monitoring software like hwmonitor make the 3DMark Firestrike really fail like the developer claims or not?"

"And if so how realistic or sensible is this test?"

@Shimejii Edit: IF THIS MAKES ME GO FASTER, this was about my initial OC that even failed before the test even started (during loading screen) ;)

if your pc is crashing while trying to do benchmarks that draw a lot of power from your gpu and you're playing with voltage to overclock.

it might be the overclocking settings that is the villan behind the problem

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

Which test within Firestrike keeps crashing?

I want to know if I can run overlays while doing this test,  yes / no?

The developer said that's why the test crashes and frankly. I don't believe him.

FireStrike is strange with Afterburner. On my computers the GPU mhz reporting freezes.

The rest of the overly works.

Yes you can use overlays in Firestrike. I've been benching a good few GPU's for hwbot a fair bit recently and not seen any issues with Afterburner/Firestrike.

How in the world is the developer going to know why your Firestrike crashes?  Have you sent any crash logs?

If it didn't crash w/o OC but with OSD enabled then it's not OSD problem imo.

I see,  thanks guys.

It's really a bit strange how some devs act.

All he had to say was "it's possible your OC makes the test crash" but he didn't, he keeps blaming overlays - even if none are actively running...  :/
