Hello everyone.

I'm about to get a Gigabyte GTX 1070 Extreme Gaming (gifted from a partent which doesn't use it anymore), and given the recent release of Red Deaad Redemption 2 (a game which is proving to be extremely heavy and unoptimized) I'd really like to overlock the GPU.

In the past I used to follow this guide by JayzTwoCents:

I can still follow this guide, but given how much time has passed I was wondering if there are some updated methods, maybe with some other software or anything like that.
I don't wanna beat any record, I want a decent overclock, but stability is my main aim.

I'd also like to know if there are some tricks involved, like enabling some kind of turbo mode.

My case has decent areation, so I'd like to get as much perfrormance as possible.

Here's the specific GPU:

https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Graphics-Card/GV-N1070XTREME-8GD-rev-20#kf

Here's my PC specifications.

Intel i7 4790K 4GHz (stock)

MSI Z97 Gaming 5

32 GB Ram DDR3 2133 MHz

Windows 10 Pro 64 bits

Samsung 850 Pro SSD

I have the valley, timespy and furmark benchmark installed.

Thank you so much!

Bench your gpu with the valley. Then start overcloking a pit (50memory, 25 core, little more voltage(Not recommended) and a little more power target).

Then bench again and check that temps are under 85C if so overclock a bit more. (repeat the upper step).

Then bench, oc bench, oc bench, oc

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

Thanks!

May I ask why you suggest to increase voltage if you then clearly say it's not recommended? Cheers.

Increasing voltage lets you overclock even more (if temps and stability is ok(no crashing etc)), But it can make you crash and increasing it too much can kill your gpu

I'll do the increments very carefully, but what would you say a sensible, yet useful overclock would be?
Also, in your experience, does a decent overclock actually make a difference?

Also, does the overcloking interfere with the boost technology (which I also have no idea how it works)

OC help 5-10% if its decent.

Try +150core,  +250 memory and +10% power and no voltage increasing.

If thats fine try higher (im not resbonsible)

+160 core,  +500 memory, +30% power and pit more voltage

Well, thank you very much!
I will let you know how it goes, then.

Can I use the same drivers for the 1070? I currently have a 1060

No, download this https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/download/. Run this while you have your 1070 installed. Go to drivers tab and update to latest drivers from there Or from gigabytes page https://www.gigabyte.com/fi/Graphics-Card/GV-N1070XTREME-8GD-rev-20/support#support-dl-driver-vgadriver.

But you should run the geforce experinece and update the drivers from there

dont use same drivers, you have to use the 1070 drivers not the 1060 drivers.

Does geforce experience take care of uninstalling the inappropriate drivers?
That's very efficient actually :)

When you switch gpus your "old drives" does not transfer to your 1070. The 1070 you will get has the drives that your "partner" has installed
