Hello my friend wants to build a computer that can be used for Office and some "light" gaming.

His budget is 1500-2000CAD.

I'm just wondering if the ram that I've picked is better for the 3700x and will it work with the Asrock board even though it is not listed as compatible with it.

He insists on having an X570 board with wifi, but I'm convinced that a B450 board can do just as well and into the future too.

He mentioned playing Prey (2017) and KOTOR (2003/2004), and he has a medical condition (arthritis) which leads me to believe that 144Hz high competitive gaming (CS GO, Dota2, Fortnite) is out of the question.

Wifi is a must for the Mobo.

I don't know much about monitors, but I'm hoping that the GPUs listed can support Ultra Wide.

He wishes this computer will last him 5+ years for above purposes needed.

Thanks in advance.

This is what I think my friend should have if I tap everything out. (CAD)

I think EVGA's B3 Bronze units are broken/complete crap if I remember right, not sure about the quality of gigabyte's PSUs as well high wattage for a low cost is usually a red flag, but it is probably average/fine.

X570 is pretty cheap so I'd probably just buy it.

He should get an RX 5700/XT over the 1660ti though.

144hz is going to help no matter what.

Have 2 SSDs is just strange though, best to just get a 500GB NVME drive + 2TB hard drive or something.

3600mhz RAM is better for 144hz gaming, even 240hz would be useful to close the gap vs other players.

So do you think what I have built for him is good enough or should I still get an x570 for him?

What do you think of the one that I think he should have with the ultrawide?

Why is clock speed more important in 144 gaming? Isn't it a combination of CL and Mhz that gives the true latency that matter most?

Why is the 80+ Gold certified not enough to convince you that the PSU is good enough?

Just check like load testing reviews for it, There are Chinese 1000W units with 80+ ratings I wouldn't trust either.

3600mhz CL16 will be better than 3200mhz CL16 in general, they're just kind of cheap so it's probably worth the upgrade.

If I threw a whole thing together it would look like this with a 240hz display, as that's nice for fps games and the faster RAM is going to help get your fps up

Doesn't need the 8 core if he's not doing streaming

I dont mind X570 compared to B450, it's much more upgradable when it comes to handling power hungry CPUs. I just dont like the rest of what he used.

If your friend wants a X570 board then get him a X570 board. It's his money he can spend it however he wants.

I agree with that, but what I am wondering is if the 3600mhz 16cl will be better than 3200mhz 14cl. The true latency is lower on the 14cl but not by much.

This is a computer that is built to be not upgraded. In other words there is very little reason that he will upgrade it when he starts to use it. The overkill built I constructed for him should last 5 years of gaming at 1080p and maybe 7 years of Microsoft office.

Does this have WiFi? On its specifications page, it mentions lan, and one word of WiFi but doesn't mention the speed.

no it doesn't

Those would be basically the same, in that case just get whatever is cheaper.

might be able to overclock that 3200mhz CL14 RAM as well.

Dunno about the motherboard wifi, they'll usually put that in the name, but I don't think many of the microATX boards have wifi built in.

The Q500L supports ATX motherboards, but it was much higher priced for some reason.
