Hi guys! Long time reader, first time poster here!

Im a professional video editor and i work in a small production company as a post-producer (basically everything that happens after shooting is my deal).

We have been recently taking on bigger and bigger projects and i have begun to feel the need to upgrade out office infrastructure, which is at this moment basically non-existant.

What i need is to connect 2 workstations over 10GbE to a RAID storage of some kind (built with redundancy and for speed, 15-20TB would do fine) and also be able to take this storage onto the set to offload recorded media directly to it - either over a network connection (10GbE at least) or over USB 3.0 or thunderbolt -in any case it needs to copy at least  300-400Mb/s using TeraCopy for integrity checking.

My first thoughts were of a NAS, but those are usually only accessible over network - so i would need to take a network switch to the set? I would obviously need it in the office anyway so that wouldnt really be an issue - but on set i use a macbookpro 2014 that only has thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 and a 1GbE ethernet connection (with a dongle ofcourse).

Any ideas how to do this setup without breaking the bank?

I look forward to your suggestions!

Best Regards,

DJ

So, if I get this right you basically need a portable box that you can take to shoots and use to dump the recordings onto in case you run out of storage on your camera's?

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

Well, yes. Ideally it would be a NAS with 10GbE and also accessible through thunderbolt or USB 3.0 . But ideal we cant afford. I also looked at thunderbolt RAID boxes, but then i would need to have one workstation always on in order for the other to access the files.

My basic idea was a portable 10GbE network setup.

Following this thread... I'm trying to do the same thing. @Alitus, any luck yet on a solution?

I run a newly launched small 3 person photo/video studio, and we desperately need to figure out a scalable storage solution that won't break the bank, and will help us maintain a 3-2-1 standard redundancy. Right now we're currently just using multiple WD Passports, not even the SSD kind, so it's a train wreck.

We all work remotely, so I'm thinking a NAS is best, but I need to be able to directly tie into the drives since our apartments are certainly not wired for 10GbE.
