Hello people. So I'll be straight forward. A built a new Pc and used my old hdd and ssd with everything installed in it. So know I have figured I can't do that. What can I do. If I put the hdd back to the old system and reinstall windows won't it still have the old configurations? Also I don't have a disc reader in my new build.

Do you want to install Windows ?

(If your OS is on on of the disk you can choose them in the BIOS as your BOOT Device and boot from them into windows)

No I've got windows already installed. The Pc boots up but with the old configurations (which I didn't know)

Nope. I found out since it have the old bios and drivers I can't even use my mouse or keyboard even in safe mode.

That's odd because if it's a new system, it's another bios on the motherboard that shouldn't conflict and mouse/keyboard don't need drivers to work.

Also if you are using your old HDD/SSD, windows is already installed, it has the mouse/keyboard drivers, no ?

Yeah that's what I also thought but I can't seem to get it to work

  • Do the keyboard and mouse light up at all? (If not, the issue may be your USB port connection.)
  • Do they work if you were to open up the BIOS on boot up? (Not a USB issue, likely a driver issue.)
  • Can you use the keyboard to get into windows with your password?
  • Have you tried connecting a new mouse or keyboard while windows is up and running?

Keyboard/mouse drivers should auto install when the device is plugged into the PC. So try unplugging them when windows is running, and then plugging them back in?

So you can't use them to log into windows itself?

I don't have a password so what happens is. While it boots into Windows they turn off, I hop into the home screen and I can't do anything. Also there is an error message about openGL

My honest advice is to stick them back in the old system, back up all important files, and wipe the boot disk.

Install the boot into the new PC without OS and go with a clean install. You can always keep your files on the scratch drive, and likely not have any issues (again back them up just in case.)

Would you advise to give it to a technician and get the job done for 30$ just to be safe or is it simple enough to do it alone?

It's very easy. You'll need a thumb drive for a windows boot drive.

You could find a million step-by-step guides online.
