With the recent launch of the Core i9-9900KS, I was watching a series of Youtube videos that was talking about that the 5.0 GHz all core turbo only works under certain conditions.

Some motherboard don't strictly abide by Intel power limit (PL2) guideline and that will allow the new processor to turbo up to 5.0 GHz on all cores, all the time.

I tried looking, for example, at the Asus Z390 boards and it's hard to tell which ones will be able to run it at the full 5.0 GHz all core turbo, all the time vs. the ones that can't/don't.

How will I know which motherboards will be able to do this and which ones won't?

Your help is determining this is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

If you buy a K sku CPU, why would you waste time thinking about PL2? Just set a manual core multiplier. If you're asking which boards have VRMs that can actually keep up, there is a stickied motherboard tier list.

I used an AORUS Ultra for 5ghz on all cores at 1.27v on a i9 9900k. It idles in the low 30s with a Noctua nh d15.

Ahh...so that's what it is meant by "tiered" list.

Sorry, I didn't know.

I know that the KS is just a specially binned version of the K processor, but apparently, in some of the reviews from Gamers Nexus and co., that the KS will do 5.0 GHz all core turbo with slightly lower power consumption than the same K processor.

Long term stability is important to me, so I would be willing to pay the little bit extra for the 'S' whilst getting the fastest singled threaded performance.

No problem! ?

Given that list that's in the light blue -- is there any real difference between the manufacturers or are they all, more or less, the same in regards to the sustained, power delivery?
