Looking for School/ Light gaming laptop

Any recommendations for a laptop for school (4 core, 8gb ram) and light gaming (mx250 or similar). Needs good battery life, needs to be a reasonable price for a Christmas gift (USD)

Varies (generally 500+ across grandparents and software Engineer uncle) mainly depends on what I've got this year and my last laptop died so likely more I think

A chromebook is a decent option for school, there isn't much room for gaming with them though.

I refuse to get a Chromebook Due to the millions of problems I had with them at my previous school
