Final upgrade for i7 2600k (4.3ghz) + 2560x1080

Hi GPU pros,

I'm looking to upgrade my PC one last time. I play LoL mostly, maybe BF6 if its modern combat. My 7990 is starting to struggle in ultradewide since the dual gpu is optimized poorly for most games, and it only can use 3 of 6 gb of vram.

i7 2600k

Noctua DH15

msi 7990

16GB CS Vengeance

850 Plat

lg 34uc79g-b 2560x1080 ultrawide

What would be the best gpu I could possibly get for this older girl to give her optimal performance for 1-2 more years?

Thanks all!

B

Your biggest problem here is your cpu I’d say too.

as @dizmo mentioned  1070 used or 1660Ti new.

but for both cards that cpu will be a limiting factor

A brand new RX590 is pretty cheap these days and it should perform great with the setup as is.

The GTX 1070 ~ 1660 Ti is a bit more powerful but can also cost more and on the 1070's case it will be second hand.

A last thing worth paying attention to is that older 2560x1080p ultrawides only had Freesync through HDMI and in this case only Radeon cards are supported... so make sure to check on this as well.

My monitor is the lg 34uc79g-b. I don't think it made it on the GSync compatible list, but not sure.

Oh yes I checked and it's Freesync functionality is tied to HDMI only, so you cannot use it with a nVidia card.

Having that in mind and how your CPU is not going to keep up with a 144hz demand, it might be wise to consider a Radeon GPU.

Thanks for the advice Luna, I guess the Rx590 is the one to hunt for on BF. Still waiting to see if 5500xt will be a contender

The CPU actually isn't that bad. If he's just looking to do one smallish upgrade to have his system last a little longer, upgrading the mobo/cpu/RAM isn't really in the cards.
