Good Day

I just wanted to show a small snip-it as to why I continue to use adblocking on youtube. I turn off adblockers for channels I wish to support. But I would like to show what has started to show up and questions I have been asked about this ad in particular(my work is in technology and how it interacts with people ;)).

I do not know if this add would show up for other countries but I can confirm its becoming more common in Canada. I have seen a few by this same company/account/external website link where it is asking preteens or kids to either click on sketchy links or to give up personal information. FYI the video itself isnt that bad as its some kid saying undercurrent info you hear in any make money scheme, "you can make $1000 a month by finding online jobs for highschool kids". Also the video changes its title once you click it to not show up 13-15 year olds as its against labour laws in some provinces to hire under X age. Unless I was in my test environment I would not go to the links as they lead to advertising spamming websites asking you app downloads and such. I am going to see what is all tracked by the sites once I have some time. If requested I can get the link this video in particular goes to but I do not wish to send forum users to some sketchy sites.

What do you Guys/Gals think? Do you think this advertisement is alright?

In my Province (Canada version of state) the minimum age for hiring a worker is 16. Unless its under specific circumstances like a family farm or home business which they can get labor but I am not sure how/if its paid. I am not sure on soliciting information from 12-13 year old kids, I assume this would be illegal as Youtube got in trouble recently from this exact issue. The way the video goes about having people click a link which leads to another website which in turn leads to other websites seems sketchy at best and I doubt its a legit way to make any money and would be mostly for taking information or installing nefarious apps on phones or putting spyware on the computer.

Oh how I loathe this kind of stuff. Seems even more nefarious targeting that particular age group. Illegal? Maybe, maybe not. Ethical?

*coughs*

What teenager isn't looking for extra money? They know their target audience is likely to give them their attention with that. They also happen to be the age group with the most surface-level understanding of enough stuff so that they could do whatever work this is but not realize they are getting messed over until it's too late and these guys have your money and/or, worse yet, your time. The worst thing about this predatory stuff is when the teenagers grow up, they get a warped view of work, maybe even get disillusioned with life in general. It's just toxic stuff here.

People, young people especially, need to understand these ads for "make EXTRA MoNayy" and "Financial SECRETS only the RICH know" have been around forever and will continue to be around not because they're true but because screwing people is profitable.
