How can I use 2 internet connections on one PC?

I'm sure this can be done but not 100% sure how to set it up, so I'm praying to the lords of tech that someone here can help!

 

My motherboard has x2 LAN ports, one 2.5gb and a 1gb, it's the Asus Rog Strix X570-e. In the house I have a 4g router and a standard router hooked up to the phone line. Speeds are unfortunately slow, I can only pull around 20mpbs from 4g and I'm told the standard router will go to 17mbps (it isn’t due to be switched on until tomorrow so will need to test - just moved in). So, shocking speeds for a house that pulled 1.5TB last month. FYI - working on a way to improve the 4g but that might take some work. So, in the meantime, I want to hook both routers up via LAN to my main PC and be able to pull data from both at the same time. Can anyone provide instructions on how to do this without breaking my connection and creating all sorts of IP conflicts etc etc please?

You are much better off getting a router than has dual wan, and then pluggin your pc into that.

 

Do you want to speed up a single stream of data, or just have multiple tasks spread out amount the connections. If you want a single stream to be faster, you need something to bond the connections and a paid connection on anouther server.

Get a dual wan router and plug the other 2 routers into it, is that how this would work? Could be an idea if all else fails, but I have another long term solution in mind.

 

Right now I just want to be able to bridge both connections for dual bandwith on one PC, as I have the hardware already.

Well windows won't do dual wan natively. If it must all be on one pc, setup pfsense or untangle in a vm, and have all of your desktops networking go through that, but thats messy.

I only want one PC to benefit from the 2 connections, so the PC with the x2 ports will be the only desktop connecting. I read that windows can handle this if I simply select the 2 lan connections and click bridge.... but that sounds all to easy to me!!??

4g speeds and ping are erratic to say the least

 

a local connection not evn on 20mbps is probably a bad adsl connection using old copper

 

if no isp where you live offers coaxial or optical fiber ftth, i understand why you ask for this

 

linus made a video where he found a service that allowed you to do what you ask, join two connections to make them work as one

 

as for doing it locally, order the pc to use both simultaneously, windows by default chooses one adapter and moves internet from there and ignores the other, same for wifi, if is connected to wifi, it will ignore ethernet(s)

 

bridge connections is more meant to be used as your pc acting as a bridge between two networks, not two internet connections, but if you have time, try it, the worst it can happen is that it doesnt work

 

the definitive solution in your case is get  better isp offering you coaxial with at least 40mbps or optical fiber with 100mbps or more, whatever you try now, might or might not work with desired or undesied pings or weird hiccups is a temporary solution, a definitive solution is what you need

Tell me something I don't know!!! Living in Rural Scotland I have no options above 20mbps where I'm located. No ISP's run a faster connection to this property. 4g is the best solution available. In the city I have 350mbps so it's a massive drop! So unfortunatly your definitive solution, isnt a solution for me :(

if you have to choose, and 4g is more stable on your location, i would terminate that dsl service and live with it, i have friends that use similar connection on similar situtions and i understand why you want and need more, but i bet those copper lines they offer you are basically rusted/rotten and speeds come and go so is basically useless

The bridge will basically make a layer 2 switch between the ports, you don't want that.

That video needs its own box and a paid service. You can buy something like that if you want or run it in a vm on your system, but you can't just have windows use 2 connections easily.

As the video says it's downright impossible to speed up a single "task" e.g download over multiple connections without infrastructure like iTel has where they have servers on a big connection somewhere else that reassemble the packets before sending them where you need them to go.

As a few have said Windows can't use two connections, you would need a dual wan router. You could use pfsense on a VM and send all of your computer's traffic through pfsense.

In pfsense you could set what goes through which internet connection.For example, you could put gaming servers through your "Standard Router" and youtube through the 4g since 4g probably has higher latency and faster speeds
