Which software gives you automatic captions?

My boss just assigned me tons of work. He wants me to add chinese translations to several hundreds of videos, and I have to finish it before next year.  He already gave me all the chinese texts. All he wants me to do is to put those texts into the videos

 This is just crazy,  I can do copy and paste. But it's not that easy because I have to add caption manually in each frame before putting those texts in. I have only finished 4 videos today using sony vegas. I only spent 1 minute copying and paste text but hours just to make caption.

 

All I wanted to know if there is an automatic way to generate captions/templates?  Otherwise I would be dead.

Do they need to be hardcoded in the video?

I would use software like http://subworkshop.sourceforge.net/

From what I remember after you're done with subbing simply put the subtitle file in the same directory as the video and name it identically (ex. video1234.avi with subtitle video1234.srt). Most video players should pick up the subtitle file and show it.

If the content is able to uploaded to YouTube, then why not use their automatic captioning?

I am not an expert at this and have not tried it myself, but, if that cuts your work load in half that would be beneficial, surely?

https://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit  is another reasonably good one that I've used multiple times to fix bad subtitles.

As far as I know, there is no way of doing it fully automatically, unless you design a full-blown native-language processing AI for it like Youtube has.

If you don't have timecodes, you still need to sync subtitles to audio. If you have time codes (or after you have created them), you can use Handbrake embed subtitle in video file, or even hardcode them in.
